Back in the Summer Swing

Hello friends!

I’ve been gone for a few weeks and it’s been too long. Between finishing my last week of  finals EVER, celebrating the end of college, graduating, and being ill/recovering from a small surgery … I’ve been so so busy. I’ve been lacking on my blogger duties big time!

However, now it is summer, and that means lots of new blog posts to share! If you know me you know I love heat and I’m a true “July baby.” Theres nothing like waking up to a warm summer breeze coming through my windows, eating breakfast on the porch, and picking fresh flowers whenever my little heart desires. What can I say, I have a perpetual crush on summer.

To welcome summer, on one of the first very hot days in upstate New York, I celebrated with a pair of shades and a new dress. (Obviously)

This outfit is perfect for any casual occasion  and talk about comfy… which is my most important thing on my style checklist. If you are uncomfortable, you will look uncomfortable and then chances are that everyone will see it written all over your face. So be comfy and be happy.

The dress looks like denim but it’s actually a very light cotton material, that is much more breathable than denim is. (And breathable is important on 85 degree days) You can purchase a very similar dress here.

The boots are Dolce Vita, which may arguably be some of the best boots anyone can purchase. Nordstrom rack always sells Dolce Vita shoes and normally for half the price. So understandably, I couldn’t leave the store without them. Not to mention, they pass the “comfy” test. I wore them all day at work and then afterwards for hours and my feet didn’t hurt at all! These are a all year boot, wear them with a dress or with jeans and a sweater. You can’t go wrong. Get your own pair here

As for the tote, I consider it a family member because I have a hard time going anywhere without it. I got it a few years ago from Levi’s and it’s the best quality leather tote I have ever found. If you don’t already trust any and all of Levi’s products, today is the day to start.

The neck scarf is from the holy grail of stores. By that I mean, J. Crew. My favorite store where I have never found an item I didn’t like. Surprising, I know. Check out my post from about a month ago on neck scarfs to learn more about how I use them in my outfits or get your own here.

Finally, I always bring a jacket with me because I am always cold and restaurants/offices are generally -5 degrees. So to solve my problem, I paired a light military green utility jacket with this particular outfit. Mixing different fabrics can really make an outfit that much more interesting without going overboard. To get one of your own, click here.

Keep an eye out for more blogs coming next week!

Easy Peasy Pie: My favorite summer dessert

Ok, as most people close to me know I have a major sweet tooth. I love cake, cupcakes, pies, chocolate, you name it! But sometimes desserts can be a little too much when the weather gets warmer and I like something sweet but not too heavy.

Problem solved! My aunt began making a banana creme wafer pie that my sister and I ask for as gifts for our birthday because we love it THAT much! The best part? it doesn’t take long to make, and it goes great with fresh fruit! Not to mention, it is so light (and yummy) that I have to admit, I’ve eaten it for breakfast before.

Since this has become one of my favorite and easy desserts to eat, it has also become one of my favorite to make. It only takes a few ingredients and can be ready to enjoy in just over an hour! I wanted to share my version of this quick and delicious recipe so others could enjoy it too!

Here’s what you will need: (Makes enough for roughly, 4 to 5 people)

  • 9-inch pie plate
    • You can totally decide the pie plate you want to use depending on how many people you are making this pie for. Obviously, if you are making for more than 4 – 5 people, maybe make 2 pies. Otherwise, modify the recipe as needed!
  • 2 packs of instant banana pudding
  • 2% Milk
  • A box of Vanilla Wafers
  • 2-3 Bananas (depending on the size)
  • Cup of blueberries (optional)

  • Make the pudding as instructed on its box and let it sit in a separate mixing bowl until needed
    • Note: Normally, I add a little extra 2% milk and beat it with a hand mixer for a little longer to make it as fluffy and thick as possible for a creamier pie.
  • Layer the bottom and all along the inner perimeter of your pie dish with vanilla wafers to act as the pie crust. Layer the pie dish with the rounded top side of the wafer DOWN.
  • On top of the wafers, put down a layer of bananas
    • You make want to toss your bananas lightly in a bowl with about a tablespoon of lemon juice and just lightly cover them so they don’t turn brown before your guests can enjoy their pie.
  • This is where you can take the option to gently mix in your blueberries with your pudding mixture before putting it in the pie dish. It adds a bit of a surprise and a sweet taste to every bite. I personally, would always choose to put them in.
  • Then, pour in all your banana pudding and smooth it all out over your bananas and wafers.
  • Next, go around the top perimeter of your pie dish and create a circle of wafers. (as shown above..)
  • Feel free to decorate the top of your pie however you like. In the picture above, I created a little flower with my remaining banana slices and chocolate chips. Sliced strawberries are also a perfect topping to place on the top of your pie.
  • FINALLY, refrigerate you pie for at least an hour. For maximum enjoyment, make sure to refrigerate your pie leftovers!

Enjoy! 🙂

Redecorating & Recoloring: A SERIOUS Spring Cleaning

My bedroom has been hot pink for the last 7 years…. and I’m not sure how I lasted that long. It is safe to say that the hot pink is long gone and my room is NEW & IMPROVED!!

I’m not sure when someone thinks of me and a color, their first pick would be hot pink. However, my style and eye for color had not yet “evolved.” BUT, thank goodness it finally did.

I have a serious adoration for lifestyle magazines like Country Living and Southern Living, especially for their home design features as well as an obsession with Fixer Upper/all things designed by Joanna Gaines. (I mean who isn’t?)

So, this time around, I wasn’t planning on making any mistakes again with the color and the overall theme of my room. I had a clear idea of what my plan was, continue reading below to see my tips for redecorating your room and how to make it a sanctuary of your own.

  1. Pick a theme! Personally, I knew I wanted my bedroom to have an “earthy” yet clean look. I also knew I wanted to incorporate a linen look to my room, meaning that there would be minimal colors. But, if you want to add pops of color to your room, I would suggest doing that with furniture, decor, and bedding. Don’t choose one color as your theme, it will get very overwhelming, very quickly.
  2. Find a cool and calm color that will bring lots of light into your room. The color I chose for my room is called “fall chill” and it is a color available at most Lowes through Olympic Paints. It is in the color family of “grey” but it is bright while still muted. It shows many different tones including the lighest lavender color as well as a soft cream color.
    Screen Shot 2017-04-19 at 12.55.28 PM.png

The family of  “grey” paints from Olympic. Fall Chill is the second color down from the top left.

  3.  Find a bedding set that compliments the color of your room but also gives your room the look that you are trying to achieve. As I mentioned before, I wanted to keep my room very calm and I did that using the color of my bedding and coordinating it with my walls. You can also use a pop of color in your bedding. Instead of going bold with your walls, go bold with throw pillows and your comforter. I found my bedding set at Homegoods, which I found had the best quality at the best price. (Shoutout to Homegoods for always being number 1!)
  4. Finally, clean up your furniture and get some accent/wall decor to put the final touches on your new personal sanctuary. After finishing my walls and finding bedding to add on to the look of my room, finding curtains and an accent lamp was easy! However, try to put personal touches on your space as well that won’t just make it look good but it will make you feel good! My favorite little things to make a room more “homey” and bright are flowers arrangements and stacks of books/magazines. (as you can see in the picture, my personal bible aka Country Living Magazine is accompanied by my other favorite item, a fresh arrangement of flowers. Here are some accent items from Target that I added to my room: (because Target has everything, like Homegoods, so why even go anywhere else?)
    1.  Target – Windsor Light Blocking Curtain Panel – Eclipse™ (color: cream)
    2.  Target – Hayes Collection Stick Lamp – Threshold™
    3.  Target – Large Cream Textured Linen Shade – Threshold™

Neck Scarves & Loafers

Neckties and Loafers are a season trend and I am jumping right on the bandwagon. My loafers are from Lands End and they are SO comfortable. Not only are they leather, but they have a padded insole for walking around at work and running errands all day!

Warming up to Spring: Sporty & Casual

Finally, warmer weather in Upstate New York.

Now, that doesn’t mean anything above 55 degrees, but for those who have been suffering the winter of the north-east… 55 is pretty nice…

When I’m not working, I tend to dress pretty casually and I love a comfortable outfit that can work for going to class, going to a quick meeting, running errands or grabbing a bit to eat.

This outfit is the epitome of what comfortable spring style looks like to me. A dark pair of jeans with a soft jersey knit tee shirt and some comfortable sneakers is my go-to for days like this.

Popular for this spring season is a sporty look with comfortable pieces that can be stylish at the same time.

Keep reading to find out what pieces I am wearing and where to find them….

FullSizeRender 25

First, to address this denim/leather bomber jacket. Not only are bombers totally in right now but purchasing a jacket that is made of more than one fabric or texture can really add to any outfit. Find one like mine here.

FullSizeRender 33

Second, my super comfy Old Navy long sleeve tunic. I don’t have to say much about this essential wardrobe item. Old Navy’s long and short sleeve tee’s are some of my favorite. They are not only incredibly soft but they keep their shape and are very flattering. I’m a big fan of stripes so, I definitely couldn’t leave the store without this item. Old Navy 100% got it right when they created this tee. It is the perfect amount of stretch matched with a perfect length for jeans, leggings, or to even be tucked into trousers. To get this top, click here.

FullSizeRender 30

Third, the shoes. Leather slip on sneakers are on of the shoes on trend for the year. You can basically find them in any store and they add a subtle touch of chic to any casual outfit. The most important I MUST stress…be careful when buying leather sneakers! If they do not fit you perfectly, you could run into some very painful heels halfway into your first wear. Make sure you invest in a great shoe with support that fit you just right. This way, you can wear these all day regardless of how much you are walking. To get my shoes, click here.

Fourth, the jeans. Arguably my favorite part of any outfit. I LOVE JEANS. This pair of dark denim skinny jeans is one of my favorites that I own and it’s probably because they are comfy and never, EVER lose their shape. No surprise, they were made by Gap. Gap is the maker of some of my favorite jeans (aka I am a jean hoarder/own too many pairs) and I’m certainly not the only one who feels this way. If you invest in a pair of jeans that fit you comfortably and are from gap, I guarantee you will not regret it. To score these great pants, click here.

FullSizeRender 34

Finally, the accessories. I’ve said before that I rarely sport a lot of jewelry but I LOVE rings. Normally, I wear a few Pandora rings, which are my favorite and you can shop here. But the thumb ring I am wearing here is from Alex & Ani. I have always been a fan of their jewelry but their new collection of numerology rings are certainly my favorite by far. They do not tarnish and they are adjustable to your size, so what could be better?! Plus it’s fun to learn a little bit about numerology while finding out about what number represents you. To shop this collection from Alex & Ani, click here.

AND for my leather card holder, which is super convenient when I don’t want to carry a wallet or bag, is a DIY project of mine. I’ve always loved sewing things by hand and I’ve especially always loved leather goods, so recently I decided to take initiative and do something I have always wanted to do. Quality leather goods are also important to me, so being able to make something for myself, make sure it was well made and would last through years of use was rewarding. (considering starting a store of handmade small leather goods on Etsy……)

Thanks for reading!

Monday Must-Haves: Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without (and Neither Should You….)

Recently, I have stumbled upon quite a few of beauty favorites that have totally transformed my skin. Besides trying to drink as much water and staying as hydrated as possible, it is just as important to use great products on your skin.

I always try to achieve a fresh look without wearing too much makeup and when I say without wearing too much, I essentially mean wearing a very small amount… and Sundays, are partially devoted to taking the time to give my skin a little extra love to recover from the week.

There is nothing like a good complexion and your skin shows how healthy you are. But, in the world we live in, it is especially hard as to keep your skin perfect. We are constantly surrounded by dirt and pollution, eating foods with tons of sugar, and maintaining some of the worst sleep schedules ever… So, how are we supposed to even think about having perfect skin?

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Over the last few years, I have read tons of articles and a few books on what is good for a woman’s skin and what is absolutely not. Although it is hard to avoid everything that is bad for you, it is easy to give more of what is good for your skin. Especially in this skin care revolution that we are living in, it is hard to know what will actually work let alone what to actually choose.

It has taken me many months of being frustrated with my skin, to get here, but I want to share some of my favorite and most recent products to determine what has actually worked for me.

Products List:

FullSizeRender 27

  1. Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater: THIS IS A SKIN CARE NECESSITY. I never understood why people were always talking about Mario Badescu’s products. I thought his skin care line must be outrageously expensive considering I saw so many celebrities using his line. That was all until I decided to take an extra long look around Ulta one day and stumbled upon a small section of Badescu’s products. Considering, I always loved a good facial spray, I had to take a chance on a trusted product and it was well worth it! It works for every occasion and every face. I recently have talked a few people into buying it, and they have nothing but good things to say too! It works as a priming spray, a finishing spray, a refresher for any time of the day, and you can even use it on your hair! it leaves your skin dewy and refreshed and I don’t think it is a beauty product I will ever live without again. Click here to shop this product.

2. Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Scrub: Morning Burst facial scrub is a product I have been using for a few years and has always worked no matter what my skin is going through. Although I would not suggest it for stubborn acne, it has worked on my skin in more ways than one. Normally, I will start the day with this scrub and even if I have a bit of dry and dull skin when I first wake up in the morning, this will take care of it without a doubt. Not only does it deep clean your pores, but you can feel it working as it cleans! The citrus feeling is strong yet gentle at the same time. You will never have oily or dry skin throughout the day if you start your day with Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Scrub. Click here to shop this product.

3. Vitamin E Oil Facial Treatment SerumVitamin E lotions and Oils can be great for the skins overall health, especially if that skin is needing some serious hydration. Even though I do put a bit of this on in the morning before I put on my makeup, I really slather it on before bed. Although getting enough sleep is great for your skin’s health, you actually lose a lot of water while you sleep and Vitamin E facial oil will help your complexion maintain its moisture so you don’t look as dehydrated in the morning as you feel. For maximum absorption make sure you pat the serum into your skin, instead of rubbing it all around. Click here to shop this product.

4. Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum: This is another serum that I can’t stop using both morning and night. Hyaluronic acid is one of the must-have beauty products of the year and is included in every anti-anging product. Even though I don’t use it for its anti-aging properties, it helps with plumping the skin and hydration. Don’t be alarmed at the name, your body makes hyaluronic acid but sometimes you face doesn’t get enough of what it needs. The best thing about a hyaluronic acid serum is that if you are constantly in a dry climate like I am, this serum doesn’t need any help doing its job. Regardless of the climate you are in, Hyaluronic acid will do its job. Click here to shop this product.

FullSizeRender 25

5. Vaseline: I don’t need to say much about this timeless product. It can basically be used for several different things. I do not go anywhere without a small travel size of vaseline, that is how much I love it! I use it on my face as a quick spot moisturizer, on my lips as a balm, and I even use it on my hands and knuckles as a moisturizer during the awful winters. You would be surprised how a little bit of vaseline can help achieve a dewy look or how it can highlight your favorite facial features. After all, Dolly Parton uses it on her face for moisture and that woman looks fantastic. If you don’t already know where to get a cute and mini vaseline, click here to shop it.

6. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Balm: Last but not least, it is super important to have a good lip balm. Since I don’t like using vaseline on my lips 24/7, I have recently been using this lip balm and it has certainly surprised me. I always knew that Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion worked wonders but I didn’t know that they had lip balm. Since I am guilty of losing lip balms more often than I would like to admit, I probably picked this up last-minute because I was suffering from chapped lips. After using this for a few months, I have to say this has become one of my favorite lip balms and a product I will definitely stick with.. (and no surprise, there is vitamin E in it!) From the second I put it on I feel it working and I don’t feel like my lips are drying out five minutes after applying. Click here to shop this product!

Welcome Spring: An Ode to a New Pair of “Mom Jeans”

FullSizeRender 25

Happy Day!

Or happy season, I should say. Why is that? Because it is officially spring and coming from someone who lives in Upstate New York, I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome the season that warms everything and what winter has touched, starts to thaw.

The highest temperature in New York’s Capital Region for the week is 50, but if the sun gets bright enough on days over 40, that might mean rolling a window or two down.

FullSizeRender 28

Sadly, I couldn’t welcome spring with a true “spring” outfit but as the warmer weather nears… the layers I put on in the morning, must decrease. Waking up on the first day of spring with the remnants of 2 feet of snow from the past week on the ground isn’t ideal, but with the sounds of birds chirping and a chance to put on some new sunglasses, it wasn’t the worst way to start a day where I have a full schedule and will be running around from work to classes until 9 p.m.

Jeans: I normally like to start my outfits with a piece to build the rest around, so today I chose my new Garage Clothing jeans. Garage, the Canadian outfitter, who has made their way into American malls, isn’t necessarily known for their jeans but I can stand by them and say that its one of the comfiest pairs of denim jeans I’ve ever worn. Not to mention, THANK GOODNESS, vintage jeans are on their way back to fame. No wonder why so many decades were filled with classic high waisted, high-quality jeans. there is a small list of things better than a pair of jeans that don’t lose their shape and are comfortable at the same time. I have to admit, I laughed a bit when I realized they are calling their new style of jeans, “mom jeans” because I promise you won’t feel like a mom in these. If these jeans represent how moms feel in their jeans, then moms are even more fabulous than I had thought. You can shop the collection of jeans here.

FullSizeRender 27

Top: My top is also one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. A classic button up that can dressed up or down is a closet must have that I swear by. A white button up or even one with a little pattern or design can change a boring sweater into a chic statement on a cold day or make a mini-skirt a little more conservative and perfect for work. This particular button-up from my large collection is from H&M. You can shop the look here.

Trench coat: I think that a tan trench coat is another closet must have. You can literally pair a trench coat with everything and I promise it will make most outfits a little more clean and crisp than before you put it on. But, investing in a good trenchcoat is also crucial. The maker of the most popular trench coats in the world, Burberry, doesn’t make them expensive and over $1000 for just any reason. A good trench coat takes a little bit of extra material that can keep you warm when necessary but also needs to be breathable for warm spring days. A good trench coat is so important to me that it really deserves its own post. (maybe coming soon…) But in the meantime, if you’re looking for a trench coat that’s tested and approves and won’t empty your bank account, go here.

Accessories: Now, for arguably the most important part…. the accessories. For this outfit and many other outfits of mine, I find it important to accessorize in a way that’s comfortable for you. I’m not a person who wears a lot of costume jewelry or wears anything on the regular that makes a big statement on its own. Putting different materials togeather is my favorite way to accessorize, this way it keeps it simple but still, personalizes to the look that you are trying to achieve.

So….. The boots are suede. The bag is (faux) leather and suede (AND I found it at Forever 21 for $6.99, which essentially means I couldn’t leave it on the shelf) so they compliment each other without getting too complicated. After all, it may have been the first day of Spring but it was also a Monday.

To get accessories like ↑ this ↑ click on the links here → → 1. Shoes 2. Bag 3. Sunglasses

So even if it is a Monday and you don’t feel like accessorizing (or getting out of bed), skip picking out jewelry and play with some different fabrics and/or materials instead.

IRELAND: Spring (February) Break

Processed with VSCO with 6 preset

Standing on a cliff in Howth, Ireland. I swear, I could live in this spot forever.

Ireland, otherwise known as The Emerald Isle, may not be your first thought when it comes to Spring Break. BUT, when I was thinking about a vacation, I was thinking about what could get me the most fun for my money. I know it was almost a month ago, but in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, there is no better time to share my trip.

Since we spent almost a week there, I will be separating it all into a few different posts. This post intends to give a quick overview of Dublin, where you should go, what you should do, and most importantly, what you should eat! (I would say most of the money we spent, went to eating at least 4 meals a day….) AND to those of you who find Irish cuisine gross, not tasty enough, or too boring… I suggest you begin planning a trip to the Isle. They might just change your mind.

As a college student, or as someone who is aware of their bank account, it doesn’t sound too appealing dropping a huge wad of cash on a vacation that you didn’t plan. So, as a person who generally likes to know what I am getting into, I began looking for the spring break of a lifetime…

For a few months, I spent my time on every vacation site out there and began the search for a week-long, foreign vaca! Now, no offense to any beach lovers out there, because there is often times this girl wants nothing more than a day on a beach with a drink in her hand, but this trip was not one of those moments. My boyfriend and I, after long talks discussing our budget and places we had always wanted to go, decided to search for trips to Ireland or Denmark, and whatever one we found first was the golden ticket!

After hours and hours of searching for the trip, we went for it and purchased the trip. 6 days and 5 nights in the place of my ancestors. (side note: I am actually more Italian than Irish, but the red hair seals the deal) We found an amazing deal (including hotel & airfare) for $700, YES

We found an amazing deal (including hotel & airfare) for $700 a piece, YES THAT MEANS   AMERICAN DOLLARS, and began planning our itinerary.

NOTE: if you are wondering how we scored that amazing deal for almost a week in europe, don’t lose hope, it isn’t a one in a million deal. You can find these deals on a great hotels and airfares EVERYDAY and it is easy! All it takes is a little time and strategy. If you are interested in how to score one of these cheap trips, (who wouldn’t be?) keep a look out for my next post that will be all about how to find the right deal for you and your budget!

Ok, now back to my trip.

Fast forward to the day we left, we flew out of Newark, and took Air Canada which connected our flights in Toronto. From there, we started our overnight trip to IRELAND!!

But not without some type of delay of course… I mean it is February, but waking up in Newfoundland and Labrador was a surprise. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to do any exploring but due to a storm we were delayed a bit and had to make a pit stop. All that really meant for us was just a few extra hours of sleep before jumping into our week of traveling.

We arrived in Ireland and caught our bus into the city. The air was thick and humid but not warm. Cool and wet, is a good way to describe the weather. Always have something to keep you dry while walking around but don’t expect a monsoon everyday. Most of the time it is just misting and maybe a little cloudy….

Traveling tip: If you are ever traveling to Dublin or the surrounding areas, make sure you get a transportation pass, called the “Leap Pass”, so you can take any type of transportation to get where you need to go. It is between 40 & 50 euros for unlimited traveling for 7 days and their public transportation is the cleanest I have ever been on. You can purchase a pass right at the airport and there are several places in the city to ask questions once you are there, just in case.

My feet, happy to be on the cobblestone streets

Our bus dropped us right off at our hotel, which happened to be located right next to two bus stops. We stayed at the Parliament Hotel, which was a great hotel with a pub attached and an amazing staff that are very helpful with any questions you may have. We were on Lord Edward Street, which is where you want to be in Dublin. You are located right in the middle of the city and only a short walk from everything you could possible want to see in the city. It is located in the Temple Bar district but is right across the street from Dublin castle and a 5 minute walk to the beautiful, Christ Church Cathedral.

Our hotel, which was perfect! (more on that in the post)

We settled into our room, changed into new clothes, and headed our for our first meal. We stopped at a restaurant a block down from our hotel called, The Ivy. One of the coolest restaurants in Dublin, hands down. We ordered Smithwicks (which tastes even better on draft in Ireland) and I ordered the Dublin Coddle Stew. Which has a much more satisfying taste than look. Fear not Americans, its much better than most stews you have had at any restaurant in the homeland.

Dublin Coddle: A stew made basically from leftovers but tasting much better than how it looks and sounds. Consists of pork sausages, onions, bacon pieces, and of course, POTATOES.

After filling up on hearty Irish bread and stew, we ran around the city seeing as much as we could before the sun went down. We visited Dublin Castle, strolled through Grafton Street, went down to the Ha’Penny Bridge, admired the River Liffey. The best thing about Dublin is that the central part of the city is packed with most of the famous tourist spots and small side streets to find your new favorite pub or cute cafe, to be the cure-all of your tea and scone needs.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We reserved exploring the Temple Bar for after dark, meaning the actual bar and its surrounding areas. The Temple Bar district is named after the world-famous pub, which can be found one street up from the river. But the district consists of several amazing restaurants and pubs, where we spent several meals, literally, stuffing our faces. Below I will list some of the bars and restaurants I highly suggest.

Places to Eat & Drink:

  • The Temple Bar (obviously!)
  • The Shack Restaurant – AMAZING dinner
  • Mexico to Rome – Great place for early dinner or lunch
  • Elephant and Castle – Literally, eat anything here. All delicious.
  • The Auld Dubliner – If you are looking for authentic Irish dinner…. (Recommend the Stout Pie)
  • Pablo Picante – Ok, so not Irish food but they claim to be the best burritos in Dublin. I will second that.
  • The Ivy – As previously mentioned, a great spot for any meal. Recommend: Dublin Coddle.
  • Queen of Tarts – If I could eat anyplace every day in my life, it would be this Cafe. We ate here a total of 4 times and I would have gone more if possible. They have two locations in Dublin and both are so charming. I can’t say enough about this cafe. Not only is it the cutest cafe, but everything from the scones to the eggs and even the tea, is to die for.

One of many breakfasts at Queen of Tarts

We also took a tour of the Guinness Storehouse! Even though our tour was at 10:30 in the morning, it was well worth it. When you buy a ticket, which I suggest doing online beforehand, it includes a self-paced tour of the seven floor storehouse, a test in pouring the perfect beer (that you can drink after!!) which leads to a certificate that says you know how, ya know, just in case you are ever challenged to a pour-off. I suggest then taking the option to ride the elevator to the top floor where you can enjoy your fresh pint of Irish greatness with 360 views of Dublin.

A beer at the top.

For the remainder of our time there we took our time exploring all different parts of the city. Trinity College and Grafton Street are places you can not miss and try to take a tour of the Trinity College Library if possible, you will feel like you are in a real life Hogwarts.

Dublin is not a city that is hard to walk around and get from one part of the city from another. Sure, some days we were walking 10 plus miles a day but that is in no way absolutely necessary. The city is also very easy to navigate, but if you can’t find your way, just ask. People arent lying when they say Irish people are some of the nicest people out there. Time moves a little bit slower there. Things open later and bars close earlier. Not to mention, it is one of the safest places either of us have ever been.

As for taking day trips, we weren’t sure where we wanted to go when we got there but decided after asking around, that we should hop on a train to Howth, about a 40 minute train ride north. We were so happy we listened to those who recommended it to us because it is the most beautiful place I have been. Imagine a movie set of a small Irish coastal town, with the most beautiful and brightly colored cottages. Now, add 420 foot cliffs that make up half of the perimeter of town and the bluest water you have ever seen. Howth is all that and then some. This is the reason why I will be writing a separate post on a day trip to Howth; how to get there, what to do there and what to eat.

Overall, I would highly recommend people of all ages to try to get to Ireland if they can. It is truly a beautiful place, full of beautiful people, food and even better views.

Dont forget to keep an eye out for my upcoming posts on how to score a great deal on your trip, what to pack, and your day trip to Howth!

Back to Blogging….

It has certainly been a while since I have blogged for my own personal blog BUT…. I’M BACK. I decided not too long ago I decided that I should begin sharing many of my different DIY projects, travels, photos, beauty habits, products, style do’s (and don’ts), must hear, must haves, and must eats. I’ll be sharing things I adore and occasionally the things I do not. This blog, Sugar and Honey, was thought up and created by myself, with a little inspiration from friends and family.

Now let me introduce myself!

(^ Me, casually eating hot beignets in Montreal)

A bit about me….

My name is Alicia and I am currently, a second semester senior in college in Upstate New York. I’m a New York gal through and through. I grew up in a small town north of the Capital Region where there is only one stop light (which is actually only a blinking caution light.) When it came time for college, I decided to head further into the Adirondack Mountains to Plattsburgh, NY, where I lived for about a year and then decided I needed a change and more of a challenge. For the time being, I am back finishing school and getting a degree in Political Science, Research Methods, and Writing/Communications. (If you can’t tell, I’m very indecisive.)

(^ Working it at a work photo shoot, doing work. Naturally.)

I work for a local magazine, Saratoga Living Magazine and have been pretty busy over the last year writing lifestyle pieces there.  Prior to that, I was an intern for the increasingly popular, CollegeFashionista, where I was a Style Guru and a writer. When I am not writing, I am generally eating, shopping, exploring or planning up my next adventure. (Whether that be to HomeGoods or to a foreign country, we will have to see…)

There is much more to come so if you’d like, come along for the ride!

Xo, Alicia
